Basic Function
The Master Electrician performs duties related to the safe and professional operation of the electrical and lighting systems used for productions while also supervising all other Electricians working on productions or performing maintenance. Provide regular maintenance of Main Stage and Flynn Space dimming and related electrical control systems and fixtures.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities
- Working department head that supervises the stage electricians to ensure the efficient use and safety of personnel, equipment, and the space.
- Supervises crew to hang, patch, focus, troubleshoot, and operate stage electrical systems.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment in Flynn facilities and onstage in areas under your direct supervision.
- Planning and implementing of the cabling (circuiting & data) of lights and electric power distribution for any given show or production.
- Reviews show advance information provided by Production Team and gives timely feedback and/or suggestions as needed.
- Perform necessary maintenance to stage lighting equipment, dimming system, and related components.
- Maintain an accurate equipment inventory for the Flynn Main Stage and Flynn Space and their related areas.
- Maintain and keep up to date of the house lighting paperwork and console “patch” book.
- Maintain the house show console files with updates from the house plot.
- Inventory and repair and maintenance of all lighting equipment and consumables.
- Initiate temporary power connections for touring electrical distribution equipment.
- Assist in training union personnel for relevant special skills and qualifying journeypersons in use and operation of Flynn lighting control and equipment.
- Take an active leadership role in setting and maintaining the levels of production craftsmanship and artistic excellence.
- Works with the show PM/LD/ME to implement their production to the best of the Flynn’s ability.
- Work with outside electrical contractors to facilitate maintenance, new installations and upgrades.

Qualifications
- Managerial Experience (Required)
- Practical knowledge of theatre production environment and previous experience in commercial or non-profit arts desired
- At least 5-7 years' experience working as a Theatre Electrician)
- Extensive knowledge of the operation and programming of electronic dimming and control systems, especially ETC dimming and controls (Sensor dimmers, ETC consoles)
- Working knowledge of CAD systems and lighting software interface
- Able to work well under pressure with concise deadlines and supervise crews of 10 or more at varied skill levels
- Position may require climbing to 50’+ theater grid, ceiling slots and working regularly from 30’ personnel lift and various ladder heights.
- Working knowledge of chain motors and their operation
- Has entertainment tour experience, either on the road or at a road house hosting tours.
- Familiar with various computer programs
- Some CAD experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic electrical theory and 3 phase distribution systems
- Able to remain energetic, visible, and active for hours. Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Journeyperson Member of IATSE 919, or must apply for membership upon hiring
- Knowledge on OSHA Guidelines preferred
