About

The Beginning After the End Of Humanity Circus is this year's iteration of the annual Bread & Puppet Circus tradition that has continued for over 40 years. The circus is a raucous melee of short acts governed by a brass band, addressing the heart of the current moment using diverse puppetry styles with moods ranging from slapstick to dreamlike.

Bread & Puppet's founder and director, Peter Schumann, describes The Beginning After The End of Humanity Circus: “After the appropriate death dances for the burial of the empire-of-horror and it’s horrified humanity and after the screaming-trees-choir teaches earthlings how to scream against the daily atrocities, the new underneath-all-of-this humanity emerges from under the rubble, whose voices must make the new language that the new humanity needs."

As always, the Circus will feature stilters, flags, and an entire zoo's worth of papermaché creatures, all clamoring to address the present situation in all of its peril and possibility.

After the show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli, and Bread & Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books, posters, postcards, pamphlets and banners from the Bread and Puppet Press – will be for sale.
